We offer assessment and letter writing for individuals ages 18 and above pursuing gender affirming treatment. We also provide this service to individuals 15-18 years old with parental/guardian/caregiver support. You can expect this process to take between 1-3 sessions, depending on your unique circumstances.
You do not need to be an existing client or intend to continue services after the letter is complete to access this service. This service does not require a consult, though we are happy to provide one if you have questions about the process.
The age of medical consent for these life-saving services is 15 in the state of Oregon, however most medical providers encourage (and some require) familial involvement to receive theses treatments. In rare cases where familial involvement would endanger the child, youth may be able to receive these treatments without caregiver involvement. If this applies to you, please reach out to me for a consultation and we can discuss this further.
In folks with untreated gender dysphoria, risk of suicide is high. Treatment has been shown to reduce suicide attempt rates from 30 percent down to 5 percent. Treatment with puberty suppression hormones, cross-sex hormone therapy, and gender reassignment surgery has been shown to be highly effective in reducing depression and anxiety, and reducing rates of suicide/suicide attempts. If you are struggling with thoughts of suicide or self-harm related to your gender identity, please reach out to the Trevor Project to their 24/7 support line. Call 1-866-488-7386, text “START” to 678-678, or chat with them online here.

I plan to offer group and individual clinical supervision to those pursuing a social work license, and MSW students in the near future. If you are interested in working together in this capacity, please reach out so we can discuss!

Prior to COVID, therapists had long been advocating for insurance companies to cover telehealth services, due to the benefits in increasing access to services. COVID happened and insurance companies got on board, and we are expecting this support of telehealth to continue.
For some, telehealth has been so beneficial to expand the amount of providers service users can choose from throughout the state, making access to specialty providers more available. Telehealth has been very helpful in making scheduling easier, especially for those who work a M-F typical work week.
Additionally, sitting in a small office making direct eye contact for an hour can feel uncomfortable. Telehealth allows you to receive therapy from the comfort of your own home, while out for a walk, or wherever you happen to be that day. Plus, the ability for both of us to be wearing sweatpants and slippers is pretty great too.

We may offer therapy in an office in the future, and we will keep updating our website with the most current information. You can also sign up for our newsletter below, where we send practice updates out, or send us a message to give us feedback about your preferences.

Typical sessions last for 50 minutes. We usually start meeting weekly. As treatment progresses and you are feeling less distress, we may decide to start reducing frequency of visits to every other week or monthly.
Ideally, we like to decide session frequency and the length of treatment together. Some insurance companies have restrictions on how often you can meet with a therapist and how long treatment can last. Make sure to check in with your insurance to be aware of any restrictions.
The goal of modern therapy is typically to help a person learn skills to eventually manage stress and symptoms independently. Many folks are able to use therapy this way, though some may need to meet longer to work on reducing barriers and stressors or build up support systems in their community. You can talk more about this with your therapist who is aware of your individual circumstances.

The relationship between a therapist and a client is the most important factor in positive outcomes. Fit is incredibly important. Personality, identity, finances and treatment approaches can all be factors in how well someone connects with their therapist. To learn more about our approach, click here. More info about finances here.
Sometimes it’s hard to know based on reading someone’s website. A consultation can help. If you’d like a free 15 minute consultation, reach out here. It helps if you come into a consultation with some questions- this is your time to ask a potential therapist anything you think is important.
If you’re unsure about your connection with a new therapist, we recommend meeting for 3 times before making a decision, unless there are dealbreakers that come up prior to the third session.
Here are some things you might ask a potential therapist during a consultation. Try to check out the more practical information (fees, insurance, degrees and experience) on their website so you can make the most of the time on the phone.
***Be prepared to share a brief summary of what you have been struggling with and what you hope to work on with your therapist.
***How will we assess my progress?
***How much experience do you have in treating my issues and concerns?
***What type of therapy do you recommend for me? Is it effective for treating my concerns?
***What happens if I have a crisis? Do you offer support outside of sessions?
